T2 Support Drones

For a while I have been wondering why are there no T2 ECM drones specifically, and no T2 ewar drones in general. Other then combat and rep drones, T2 options are seriously lacking.

My orignal idea came before the advent of faction drones, but, again, no faction support drones.

Let me introduce a new series of prototype T2/faction drones: the racial ECM drones!

Hornet EC-300-C Spatial Destablizer Drone
Hornet EC-300-G Ion Field Projector Drone
Hornet EC-300-M White Noise Generator Drone

Vespa EC-600-A Phase Inverter Drone
Vespa EC-600-C Spatial Destablizer Drone
Vespa EC-600-G Ion Field Projector Drone
Vespa EC-600-M White Noise Generator Drone

Wasp EC-900-A Phase Inverter Drone
Wasp EC-900-C Spatial Destablizer Drone
Wasp EC-900-G Ion Field Projector Drone
Wasp EC-900-M White Noise Generator Drone

These drones would act the same as racial ECM modules, in having a better effect against the correct sensors, but almost useless against others.

Now, whether or not these are T2 or faction drones is irrelevant, except that I lean towards T2 for cost issues.

Now, some people will cry foul, and say ECM is too strong. This post is not about the ECM problem, but about a glaring error in support drones.

The question of whether or not CCP should make 12 new drones, plus all the other T2 drones that are missing, or make 3 new drones that are scriptable arises to me as I type this.

Scriptable drones? Huh? Before you discard this idea, read on. What if you could drag an ewar script to the drone bay, and change drones as if modules? And not just ECM, but TD, SD, and Neut drones.

Imagine warping into a fight and being able change your drones to fit the situation without the 60+ seconds it takes to dock.

Now that I’m on topic, what about ‘Integrated’ and ‘Augmented’ repair drones. Drones that repair both armor and shields. Not a big logistics buff, someone please comment on whether or not that is a dumb idea.

Rats 2.0 and beyond….

The first banter of this 2nd year of EVE Blog Banters comes to us from Zargyl from A Sebiestor Scholar, who asked the following: On the EVE Fanfest 2009 page are pictures of prizes for the Silent Auction that was held during the event. One of these photos was entitled “Design your own EVE mission”. My question now would be what kind of mission would you write if you got that prize? What would the mission be about? Would it be one using the new system of epic mission arks? What would be the story told by it? Feel free to expand upon his questions and put together your very own mission!

CCP has stated that Eve is a social game and that they want players reacting together and playing together, and missions rarely do that beyond a certain skill proficiency level. I now do 4’s in a passive drake and still go AFK with full agro. I’m not on comms, not in corp or allaince chat, not even at my computer. Where’s the “fun” in that? Why should making money in “game” be as monotonous as making money in RL?

Missions are a way to make money in a “game” that is about “people.” Make missions fun, people-oriented, cash flow devices they should be. Make high level missions i.e. 4’s, 5’s and some high quality 3’s, require friends and enemies to complete. More on the enemies later.

I would write a level 4 mission that didn’t SUCK. Seriously, missions suck. Epic Arcs helped but not enough. The new pirate arcs look cool but don’t really change anything. So here we go…

First things, rats are dumb, D-U-M-B, dumb. Sleepers got better and can make you sweat until you read the posts and then they are a slightly better version of the classic rat. Rats need to move like players, be less predictable, move and act like a player, FIT MODS THAT REAL PVP SHIPS FIT. How many times have you ran a level 4, looted it, and upon arriving in station find 10x of mining laser I’s, some cargo scanners and other worthless junk that no self respecting pirate that was supposedly “threatening” empire space would ever carry on his ship. What was he stealing, asteroids that are free to mine by edict of CONCORD?

Rats should act like people. Not the crazy unpredictable people, but statistical people, people that follow the known way of killing an enemy. Rats should call primary, switch primary if tank isn’t breaking, use ECM, damps, tracking disruptors, drones and various other PvP mods and tactics.

When I warp into a level 4 from a +19 agent I shouldn’t see 30 BS, 10 BC, 5 C, and 15 frigs and think “Ho, hum, I guess I could go mow the lawn while the drones do this for me.” WTF kind of game drives its player base to the “honeydo” list. I sat down to escape the “honeydo” list. Instead I should see 4 RR battleships and a combat recon protecting a hauler throwing up a tower in the wrong empires space, or even a mixed bc/cruiser fleet “harassing” that poor transport. Make the rats make sense. I run missions in Caldari space and I keep wondering “Why do I stay in Caldari space when the Gallente can build a STARGATE inside it and all the empire can muster is me to beat them back?” At the same time after I pop a 50 man Gallente fleet in a drake I know why I don’t fly for the Gallente empire.

So now I better have 3-4 friends in fleet and treat this mission as if it were a low-sec/0.0 roam. I will need remote reps, points, ECCM, and various other PvP goodies to take down these rats.

No bounties. When I pop a Raven class battleship in a level 4 mission from a +10 agent, that raven better drop ‘Arbalest’ or T2 launchers, Invuln’ II’s, cap injectors, drones, a scram/disruptor, anything that makes sense and that gets me paid since there is no bounty.

And now to the actual mission. I would make it a not quite epic arc in number of missions but definitely epic in scale. Option. would include warping to a tower that is online or is guarded and being onlined, running gate camps, scanning out a plex, jumping through that star gate the Gallente built in Abagawa.

The Tranquility Shard has a huge amount of player information at it digital finger tips. It just needs to harvest that data to bring players together.

A rough outline would be:

1 of #: “Recon” We have detected a large number of ship explosions on the X gate in Y system. Please recon the phenomenon and remote back your findings.

Now players have to interact as the mission sends them together because these are actual players camping this gate. The missioner might need to report the number of ships or ships classes or corp of gate campers or alliance of campers. Multiple choice option might be best for this mission when turning it in.

2 of #: “Gauge their strength” this would be a 2 option mission friends or solo. You could grab a group of friends and smash the camp or the agent gives you a small, cheap fitted ship and takes some collateral and orders you to engage he camp with the intention of losing it. Now if you win the fight you get the loot, the ship, and your collateral back. If you die then, oh well, turn in the KM and the agent will give you the next mission.

This again bring players together and produces PvP which is never a bad thing.

3 of #: “POS Games” This mission would require you to do one of to things. Either put up a small POS for your agent (POS has no trade value) which would require you to provide escort and a hauler, or warp to a pos being onlined and stop it because that pilot chose the online a POS mission about 10 minutes before you selected the POS Siege mission.

This would yet again bring players together and introduce people to POS mechanics on a micro scale. This would require serious balancing, possible acceleration gates to limit the number of people from each side of the mission from getting in so it is fair and nobody gets white-washed. The agents would also remove GCC while in the deadspace so concord doesn’t get all trigger happy

4 of #: “Charge the Gate” vs “Stop the Spy” this would be a mission that would be generated if 2 players requested missions within seconds of each other. The StS missioners would warp to a deadspace complex and it would put them at 0 on a “hidden stargate” like in the current missions. The CtG group would warp to same deadspace but be 30+ KM off gate. The object would be for the StS guys to prevent the missioner from jumping through the gate in a BC or bigger, while carrying cargo that can’t be looted out of the deadspace (it prevents warp while in cargo in the complex). PvP ensues and players interact with players.

These are examples of missions that don’t suck, are fun and engaging, increase your skills at Eve and can be macro’d or bot’ted. The rewards would have to balance and a hundred other little ideas but fixing rats and having missions involve more people makes it more engaging for everyone in New Eden.

1V1 PvP FTW…

After reading a compeling post, then entire blog, and then the entire allaince forum of the Blood Cartel, I had to comment on 1v1 PvP.

First off, I love 1v1’s. Absolutely love it. My skills, my ship, my mistakes, my loot. I can’t blame anyone for the ship loss. I don’t have to share the loot. I get to brag unrestrained. What’s not to love?

I will be making a mini KB page on this blog for 1v1 kills (hopefully no losses).

I mostly fly BCs in 1v1. Mostly the drake as it were, because as we know, the ferox sux. I would fly more frigates or cruisers, but without turret skills, most would probably be ISK donations.

The rules I usually use for 1v1 are as follows:

1. Honor the 1v1.
2. No fleet boosters. Usually I try to get in a fleet where no one is set booster.
3. No ECM modules or droned. Not really PvP if one of you can’t shoot.
4. Must have a point. This goes with 5
5. PvP fit. No tanking specifically for opponent.
6. If you leave, you must admit defeat. Not really a problem due to 4.
7. Loser pays. Winner gets loot.
8. If the fight is to structure (rare) it defaults to ship death if both ships enter structure near same time.
9. Not really a rule, don’t fit faction/complex/officer cause I will loot it.

Not all of these rules are set in stone but it is a good place to start.

T3 Modules…

This month’s banter comes to us from Joe Brusati a long time reader of CrazyKinux’s Musing, who asks the following: CCP states that T3 Strategic Cruisers are just the start for the T3 line-up. In future Eve expansions what would you like to see as the next T3 ship type. Please be specific on details about what role this ship would play, cost of manufacturing, and the different modules that would be available for it, and of course you must give your T3 ship a name!

 

I really, really, really (yes 3 reallys) like T3 ships, especially the Tengu (I’m missile whore). I flew it twice in AT7 and was very happy with its performance and only more pleased that the price continues to fall… which brings me to my T3 wish list.

 

I think battleships are the next logical step in T3 evolution, but not where I hope CCP takes it.

 

I WANT T3 MODULES… that’s right T3 modules. My initial idea was combo cruise/siege launchers where you could unload your torps, right click the launcher group, choose reconfigure, wait -5-10 secs, reload with cruise missiles and continue firing. After thinking a little longer, I decided that might be stupid but then thought about all those Rifter pilots who could load arty or autocannon ammo in the same guns as they hunted different pilots in the wild without having to redock.

 

Taking it farther, what about T3 shield hardeners, specifically the damage specific ones. The Photon Scattering Field II gives a 55% EM bonus, where a Photon Scattering III gives a 55-60% to EM and 3-5% to THERM, KIN and EXP. This type of bonusing would work on several modules benefiting all races. MWDs that offer a trade between speed and sig radius, painters that learn and paint better, damps that learn when a targets has achieved lock and switches from a scan res to a targeting range script. Drones that “see” where the fleet is firing and moves accordingly even if the drone ship is jammed.

 

Then lastly, what about T3 ammo? Anyone who has ventured to close to a Sleeper outpost knows the power of those omni damage missiles. What about the same for all ammo in New Eden. Maybe ammo that learns as it hits its target making each salvo that much more damaging.

 

Just some of my T3 ideas that I think should be looked at….

 

Surfing the event horizon…

After playing EvE Online for over 2 years, having seen 3 major winter patches, enjoyed the advent of T3, having flown in 2 alliance tournaments, being frustrated at the 5 minute timer on the forums and reading the excellence that is the EvE blogging community, I have decided to ruin it all by throwing my .02 ISK into the solar wind and seeing how big of a whole they make in the side of some station or ship.

With the upcoming Dominion expansion, and the awesome EvE community blogs, I thought I should have my own voice echoing through the galaxy of New Eden....

I have been planning on doing this for some time, and am now following through on that plan. I will be posting several posting in quick succession as there are some things I want to cover, both past and present.

So hold onto to your warp cores and enjoy the ride as we visit many Event Horizons
