Why do I love EvE?

Posted in Blog Banter, General, PVP with tags on January 31, 2010 by Jupacha - Important Internet Spaceship League

Welcome to this special installment of the EVE Blog Banter, the monthly EVE Online blogging extravaganza created by myself, CrazyKinux. The EVE Blog Banter involves an enthusiastic group of gaming bloggers, a common topic within the realm of EVE Online, and a week to post articles pertaining to the said topic. The resulting articles can either be short or quite extensive, either funny or dead serious, but are always a great fun to read! Any questions about the EVE Blog Banter should be directed to me. Check out other EVE Blog Banter articles at the bottom of this post!

When you’ve been roaming New Eden as long as I have, it almost feels like home. That’s how familiar it has become over the last 5 years. Not that I have done everything or touched every aspect of this most amazing of virtual world, far from it, but it just feels as though it’s always been there. And always will be.

Whether you’ve logged into the game every day since its launch in 2003, or you’ve taken one or several sabbaticals from your capsuleer career, you’ve always come back to New Eden don’t you. Why is that?

We know the EVE Online Community is unique in so many ways, and that EVE Online is like no other MMORPG out there. But what makes the game special for you?

What is it that makes this particular virtual world so enticing, so mysterious and so alluring that we keep coming back for more. Why is EVE one of the very few MMOs to see a continuous growth in its subscriber.

To put it simply: Why do you love EVE Online so much?

That is question that at first seems easy to answer, then I start typing.

Loving EvE is like loving a dominatrix with a mean streak. You recieve no quarter, your endurance is pushed to the razor edge of breaking, and you can’t utter your safe word due to the ball gag in your mouth.

First, no quarter.
I remember my first Raven. Sleek, svelte, expensive, and destroyed after 2:34 from undock.

I had sweated out countless level 4s, looted, salvaged, used T1 ammo all in an effort to save enough ISK to afford my first BS.

A glorious moment. The power, the majesty, THE FIREPOWER. I needed to test it. Needed to feel the hull vibrate as I launched my first salvo of cruise missiles. I asked my wingman to provide his Myrmidon as the test range for this maiden flight.

Being in the same noob corp we could shoot each other with out Concord ending our fun. We warped to a nearby planet and I proceeded to unleash my full fury. Moments later I am looking at my pod surround by Concord and a wreck that costs 200 mil/4 wks of carebearing.

Dumbfounded, I scrambled to figure out why I had been punished. After close inspection I realized my wingman had joined a new corp 8 hours prior to this titanic-esque voyage.

Lesson learned. Be careful who you shoot, even friends. I docked, grabbed my Drake, and undocked. Goodbye Drake, hello GCC lesson.

In less then 4 mins I had lost everything I owned in EvE but had acquired to 2 certificates of completion from the School of Hard Knocks.

Reason I love EvE 1: If I fail, I fail on my own. No one to blame but myself.

Next, Endurance pushed to the limit.
Whether missioning 4s in a BC with less then 6mil SP, sieging a POS in a BS that has 3 hardeners of each type, or jumping safes, running from pirates while ratting in 0.0 6 jumps from an outpost with no cloak.

I have spent more hours trying to stay awake while finishing a radar site or roam or POS bash then trying to get lucky, a RL project finished or any other RL activities combined.

My mistress New Eden has tested my endurance and I am stronger for it.

Reason I love EvE 2: It requires dedication, and those who play it are a better class of player. Players are more mature and understand risk and loss.

Lastly, the ball gag.
TBH, I don’t have a good analogy for the ball gag. In fact, just the opposite, I love that we have CSM, that real players commentate the tournaments, the eve blogsphere, Fanfest, and all the other things that make it ours.

The fact that I have the option to scam in Jita, play the mole and collapse an alliance, or just suicide gank someone who is about to be enrolled, forcefully, in the School of Hard Knocks, and that CCP doesn’t remove these and make EvE a mushy carebear haven makes CCP and EvE very dear to me.

Other endearing items include real time training, the old ghost training (AWU 5 for me), single shard, free expansions, SISI, the Tengu, the Golem, the tournament, player meets, awesome trailers, the fact that BoB and now goon didn’t pay bills and got smacked down, and that in 3 years of playing I have only had to suffer 2 14 year old high pitched kids on comms even though I have been in several alliances.

Is EvE faultless? No. But I love EvE, reguardless of these faults.

Here’s to EvE, game of the year AGAIN! Here’s to the only MMO that I ever payed for after the trial was over and 6 months later payed again for an alt.

Pew Pew till they turn the last server off….

Epic day of pew pew…. or trying to make the drake sound exciting…

Posted in 1V1, BC Class, General, PVP, Upgrades on December 22, 2009 by Jupacha - Important Internet Spaceship League

Today was one of these days where you can’t help but be satisfied.

The day started with my industry alt finishing 2 drakes. I grabbed both and corp insured them because one was for a corp mate who never saw it.

After bastard fitting my drake because the mods weren’t for sale in our crappy NPC station, i sent my alt to get some mods while I warped to BMNV. Upon arriving I found a few pilots playing station games. One of them was Zeconian in a Deimos. After a few dock/undock sessions I left him with 5% structure and he never undocked again while I was in system.

Next, I offered Slipy Dip a 1v1. He accepted and do to faulty timing on my part, won.

Not a promising start.

A member of (Unaffiliated) told me to come back with a ship if I wanted more action, so I fitted the second drake previously mentioned, and returned to BMNV.

Uofis agreed on 1v1 and warped to planet 1 at 0. His hurricane did really good damage against my drake, but in the end succumbed.

We congratulated each other and went our separate ways. He was really pleased that someone honored a 1v1, and I must say I was glad to see it honored as well.

Next, I found Nikita33 in an ishtar plexng in X-M2LR, and after getting a warp in, proceeded to beat the crap out of his shield tank. As he entered structure, my launchers stopped firing and the ishtar warped off. I freaked out and assumed my scram wasn’t active.

Over the next hour, I played many station games with Slipy Dip, another drake pilot Mini Paj (btw don’t bother he has a massive tank and doesn’t engage, the worst of the drake pilot breed), and a few others. At one point, I had Nikita33’s station drake scrammed, webbed and in structure when she warped again. WTF?!?!? Stabs on a drake? Makes me cry…

Anyway, after much warping around and checking surrounding systems, I catch the ishtar back in a plex, scram it, BUMP it, and kill it. 3 count them 3 stabs. Talk about fail…

Somewhere along the way, Razzor Death asked me to pod him back to the vat. I agreed.

A little while later I got the shakes as I warped into a bubble, on purpose, because a lachesis was camping it 2km off the sucker spot. Scrammed, webbed and popped, after a quick missile change out. I feel kinda bad because the other guy in local laughed at him for losing to a drake.

Shortly after, I almost tackled a vagabond, but prudence won out as I found he had a fleet of 2 drakes, rapier and incurses with him. We played station games because they thought I was going to engage.

A short AFK later I undocked to find a hulk. Mining. Solo. WTF? pop.

Warped to the over-bubbled Orvolle gate in PF- where a pod was waiting

At this point, Viicky Yvette joins me and we snag a viator + pod on a gate after roam everywhere looking for targets.

A few short moments later, a dominix jumps in and trys to cloak. a HICtor bubble, one scram and 2 webs later, dead domi + pilot.

On our way back, we ran into Eradication Alliance. They were roaming with a vaga, gila, basilisk, and 2 ceptors. Station game here station game there, dead vaga and the bassy docks with 5% structure.

I then warp to a snipe on the Orvolle gate and get tackled by a sabre and malediction (the 2 ceptors with the vaga and friends). After killing the sabre, and working on the armor or the malediction a kitsune warps in. Luckily, I get my drones on the kitsune before I am jammed. Kitsune has to warp out, while I’m looting the sabre, but his bubble is still up and I kill his pod before warping to safety, allowed to go by the malediction who doesn’t want any of my drake. The shame…

An hour later, Agony has left and I am still camping the Orvolle gate with Kanagawa when a vulture pilot decides to jump in and out testing our tanks. No propulsion mod and 1 extra web later ( with a lil’ help from a neut absolution) down goes a vulture.

The absolution then begins to test our tanks and we deagress. After jumping in and out and the absolution jumping in a guardian pilot when he hits structure, I lose my 2nd drake. At this point people begin to login and we formulate a plan to get this absolution. (Anyone who knows us knows this plan consisted of “GET TO PF- NOW! Abso aggressed on gate”).

I reship and jump back in to get aggro. Now keep in mind it has been about 50 minutes since the vulture died and this guy still has faith in his tank. He aggro’s. I overload. He dies.

At this point I warp my drake back to the snipe and get tackled by a rifter. ‘Nuff said. Actually, honorable mention to celdorash for the pod.

Exequror warps to bubbles.

Not really a gate camping group (we have short attention spans), we roam out to 6-C/Reblier. Along the way we have John Sparta jump into us, get aggro’d, burn away……. then log/disco! The result is sad for John because we had a prober wth us. Claw / Pod.

A quick trip around the low-sec loop to Orvolle chasing ghost and it is time to call it a day.

Here is the tally:
Viator + Pod
Dominix + Pod
Sabre + Pod
Claw + Pod
Estimated Damages not counting pods/impants: 1.33 bil ISK

Estimates 136 mil – 42 mil insurance = 94 mil ISK lost today.

And those are numbers you can’t argue with. Today was a great day for pew pew..

Thanks to all the guys who helped out and brought aid when needed.

As a side note: If you get the chance, engage Eradication. I saw so much fail from them it is retarded. They saw we had a falcon, engaged lost a vaga. Later they tried to kill me with a sabre, malediction, kitsune and an abbadon that was late to the party. Later still, they warp the abbadon to an Agony drake with 15 more Agony 1 gate flash and a 200km warp away. Abbadon down. And yet later still, after helping, unasked, to kill a vulture, their absolution, with a gate-hoping guardian for support, finally dies after we warp in a falcon with only 1 Amarr jammer. Engage them on sight!

Good times were had by all…

Last night was a fairly exciting night in Syndicate, specifically PF-346.

We started out in RF-GGF, spinning in station wasting time when vent lit up with intel saying Red Federation and Blue Republic were camping the same gate. This, of course, led to much speculation.

A few minutes later, we heard they were on the RF- gate in BMNV. “WTF… go go go”. We undock and beat feet to the gate, jump through, and manage to relieve some pods from the cramped innards of their ships.

Hot on their heels, E-P-O-C-H warps in and we can only assume they were after Red and Blue. Too bad.

As this fight was wrapping up, we had the 0utbreak guys warp in in RR BSes, and we promptly pulled a GTFO after some lite tank testing.

After much debating and more station spinning we decided to roam to PF-346, a single system pipe frequented by Cry Havoc.

Initially, we camped both sides of the PF- <-> FD- gates and caught a couple of solo SoulForged Combat Group guys. Sorry guys, get a better blacksmith. Kill1 Kill2

An Ev0ke Purifier was unlucky enough to land in our HIC bubble, provided by Paucoon76

Finally, we have bubbles up on the Orvolle gate in PF- and we begin our slow decent into rapid wolves. Actually, it didn’t take too long.

Aggressive Dissonance (much love) and Violent Society, who, inconsequentially, gave <BDEAL> a blue invite just 24 hours previously, decided to try and take the gate from us.

Now the battle was a little hazy as ships popped so fast. I do know that Omarvelous, our fearless leader, went down first, and we lost a Ferox belonging to Natilus2.

We we killed was a Curse +pod, Pilgrim, Brutix, Drake, Drake, Hurricane, Myrmidon and Taranis +pod.  Link

Not bad indeed…

As we celebrated our victory with much looting and scraping of drones, our enemies were hard at work refitting and planning.

Our scout reported a lot of  ship activity in Orvolle, and it was decided, with swollen egos and much alcohol, to stay and fight and win the day.

What followed was only fair play. (this BR has the last one mixed in, sorry)

The enemy jumped in 2 Scimitars, 2 Brutix, Myrmidon, at least 2 Zealots, Hurricane, Drake and some more.

We managed to take out 2 Brutix and a Myrmidon before we succumbed to what was a good fleet with excellent logistics.

Having been buoyed by our previous victories, we headed for home or the closest hub and I logged for the evening.

Thanks all for a terrific evening of PvP. Wish it was that fun all the time.

Answer: ISK, lulz and pew pew

Question: War, what is it good for?

After months of debating, arguing, ignoring and other solid alliance past-times the IMPORTANT INTERNET SPACESHIPS LEAGUE is going to war.

Whose war? What war? Well, glad you asked, because it’s not just war but MERC war. That’s right, we are trying our hand at the high/low sec mercenary war dec business. We fly ships, we shoot ships and we would like to be paid to shoot ships. Seems like a good fit.

So for wholesale ship violating, and possibly an almost free merc group, look no further then

1V1 PvP FTW…

Posted in 1V1, BC Class, PVP with tags , , on November 29, 2009 by Jupacha - Important Internet Spaceship League

After reading a compeling post, then entire blog, and then the entire allaince forum of the Blood Cartel, I had to comment on 1v1 PvP.

First off, I love 1v1’s. Absolutely love it. My skills, my ship, my mistakes, my loot. I can’t blame anyone for the ship loss. I don’t have to share the loot. I get to brag unrestrained. What’s not to love?

I will be making a mini KB page on this blog for 1v1 kills (hopefully no losses).

I mostly fly BCs in 1v1. Mostly the drake as it were, because as we know, the ferox sux. I would fly more frigates or cruisers, but without turret skills, most would probably be ISK donations.

The rules I usually use for 1v1 are as follows:

1. Honor the 1v1.
2. No fleet boosters. Usually I try to get in a fleet where no one is set booster.
3. No ECM modules or droned. Not really PvP if one of you can’t shoot.
4. Must have a point. This goes with 5
5. PvP fit. No tanking specifically for opponent.
6. If you leave, you must admit defeat. Not really a problem due to 4.
7. Loser pays. Winner gets loot.
8. If the fight is to structure (rare) it defaults to ship death if both ships enter structure near same time.
9. Not really a rule, don’t fit faction/complex/officer cause I will loot it.

Not all of these rules are set in stone but it is a good place to start.

If you would like to try your skills against mine I fly in Syndicate, Placid and The Forge, but will travel for a good fight. Convo/evemail TweakBoy and let’s pew pew.
